When and Where TheraSpecs Are Helpful

Written by Kerrie Smyres on 12th Mar 2015

You can wear your TheraSpecs anywhere and and anytime you want less exposure to any light, natural or artificial. Customers commonly tell us they wear them:

At work. You can use TheraSpecs at work to to deal with fluorescent lighting and computer and device screens so they can avoid headaches, migraine attacks, or that icky feeling even healthy people can get.

Grocery shopping or running errands. Grocery store chains and big box stores come to mind first when I think of TheraSpecs for running errands, but most stores and public spaces use fluorescent lighting. It's energy efficient and less expensive than LEDs, so stores use fluorescents to save energy and money. This can mean an exacerbation of a health condition or a literal headache for those of us who are sensitive to fluorescents. TheraSpecs give you the freedom to run your errands without dreading the lighting.

Other people's houses. Individuals use fluorescent lighting for the same reasons businesses do—to save energy and money. While you can control the lighting in your own home, you can't in someone else's house. TheraSpecs can allow you to go to game night at a friend's house or Sunday dinner with your family without fear you'll leave feeling terrible.

The gym. The gym is another place where fluorescent lighting is ubiquitous. Wearing TheraSpecs can keep your symptoms from flaring, and keep you from having to stop your workout early.

Doctors' offices. Even many headache and neurology clinics, which see many patients who are sensitive to light, have horrible lighting. With all the other sensory input of doctors' offices, like smells of disinfectants and lots of noise, being able to control the light with TheraSpecs is a big help.

Watching TV or movies and looking at computers or device screens, including phones, tablets, and e-readers. TheraSpecs won't stop the visual movement on the screen, of course, but they help with the unseen problem of the flickering light that your eyes don't detect, but your brain does. Customers tell us that TheraSpecs have allowed them to go to see movies in the theater again. (For more on managing light from screens, see Computer and Device Screens and Light Sensitivity.)

Outdoors. The uses I've mentioned so far are for indoor TheraSpecs. Outdoor TheraSpecs can be worn for any outdoor activity. The sun is strong in the wavelengths of light that are particularly problematic for people who are sensitive to light. Outdoor TheraSpecs provide more relief than normal sunglasses by filtering those problematic wavelengths.
