One of the perks of working for TheraSpecs is that we have an Eagle Scout and a mom on staff. Neither role was a prerequisite for the job, but both come in handy when, for example, another employee cuts herself on rusty hedge trimmers. (Landscape maintenance is exactly the kind of thing a writer does in the middle of a workday.) My bleeding toe and I got exactly the advice we needed in no time: No, the cut wasn’t deep enough to require more than a simple Band-aid. Yes, I needed a tetanus shot. Yes, I could probably get the shot at Walgreens.

It was a minor emergency that was only related to work because I was procrastinating. Still, I’m grateful for all the expertise we have on staff. Mostly, their expertise goes toward making great products and providing excellent customer service, but their skills are a bonus when blood is involved. In return, I ply them with baked goods.

And it's a relief to know that if my procrastination meets with disaster again, I’m covered for tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis for another 10 years.
