Behind the Lens features TheraSpecs’ customers and their journey – what brought them to TheraSpecs and how they find relief from eyestrain, headache, migraine, and overall light sensitivities.

What do you do?

I am a 4-H Program Coordinator. I manage all the 4-H clubs in a county area, including volunteers, financial, residential camp, livestock, and Jr. fair.

What prompted your search for a solution?

I started looking for something when I saw a friend post about her TheraSpecs on our Chronic Migraine Awareness Facebook page. I have always struggled with light sensitivity, and with increased migraines I was becoming more aware of how much florescent lighting bothered me.

How does light impact your day-to-day?

I work in an office with florescent lighting, so many days I need the indoor glasses to get through the day comfortably. Otherwise, I tend to be working outside where the outdoor glasses help offset the glare and the harsh squinting that I would do with regular sunglasses (even dark ones).

Which style of TheraSpecs do you own? And why did you select these?

I selected the Stella style. I liked the way it looked, and it was a stylish but still timeless choice for me since I am younger I didn’t feel like I was sacrificing looking cool. I would love to get the aviators sometime soon.

How do TheraSpecs help you?

My TheraSpecs help me stay in harsh light environments longer than I ever could without them. I am able to be outside with friends, in the office, and driving without the feeling (or aura) of a migraine coming along and ruining my day. If I do happen to have a migraine they do a great job of shielding my eyes as they are very sensitive to the light when I am in that much pain.

How would you describe TheraSpecs to a friend?

They are glasses that help my eyes relax and help to filter out the light that triggers painful migraines for me. They help to alleviate my sensitivity and allow me to be more of a “normal “person even when I am in pain, which is a huge deal for someone with chronic pain.

Do you have any tips for finding relief you might share?

I love the ice packs with the gel balls in them! They don’t freeze entirely, but they are cold and mold to any surface.
