Support Migraine and Headache Research on Giving Tuesday
You can use your Giving Tuesday donation to support migraine and headache disorder research and advocacy!
The American Migraine Foundation, the force behind the 36 Million Migraine campaign, has numerous programs underway to help people with migraine. The American Registry for Migraine Research was officially launched in November. The foundation is working to increase the number of academic headache clinics to treat more patients, train more headache specialists, and speed the pace of research. (Looking for a specialist? Check AMF’s academic headache clinic locator.) AMF also continues to refine treatment guidelines based on the most current research, which helps doctors provide better care to people with migraine. And AMF does patient advocacy and education, including raising migraine awareness in schools.
The National Headache Foundation was established in 1970 to raise awareness about the seriousness of headache disorders, including migraine and cluster headache. The foundation’s mission includes advocacy, awareness, education, and research. In addition to providing extensive patient information on it’s website and a quarterly newsletter, NHF also offers a program where doctors can earn a special qualification in headache medicine.
The Migraine Research Foundation is dedicated to funding migraine research. The research projects it has supported in the nine years since it began covers the gamut—from triggers and treatment to genetics and the underlying biology of migraine. MRF’s website details funded projects, including what the findings mean for patients and which questions on the topic are still unanswered.
The American Headache and Migraine Association is a patient organization focused on education, support, advocacy, and research. AHMA holds an annual conference for patients (and their caregivers), which includes informative presentations by top headache specialists. The conference and AHMA’s online forums are a great way to meet others who know what it’s like to live with headache disorders.
In addition to these four organizations, the number of nonprofits to support people with migraine and headache disorders, fund research, train health care providers, and raise awareness grows each year. It’s hard to keep track of them all, so please let us know if we’ve missed any! Here are the ones we know of:
